Rot and Insect infestation - All our wooden panels and posts are pressure treated at the saw mill. This treatment usually lasts for appx 15 years and often very much longer. However, this is not guaranteed by any preservative manufacturer.

Colour - Due to the preservative used in the pressure treatment, the colour will over time turn to a silver/grey colour.

Splitting and warping - Timber is a natural product and will expand and contract according to the weather. This in un-avoidable. During hot weather the splits will increase and may decrease once when the timber gets wet. This is also the cause of warping. 

Often when we see cracks or warping appearing it is natural to think there is a defect n the timber and it should be changed. It s the timber reacting to changes in the environment. 

These cracks/warping do not affect the integrity of the timber as the fibres remain in tact.

In view of the above, no manufacturer will guarantee the materials due to the above.

An Internet search will result in many articles on the cracking and warping of timber along with manufacturers/installers explaining why they cannot guarantee the timber.

Please note: With gates we allow one adjustment in the 12 month period. Any further adjustments during this period or after will be charged at £50+ vat per visit. We are unable to rectify any movement in single or pairs of gates as this is caused by the natural movement of the wood caused by the weather. When fitting gates we allow the recognised standard 10mm for expansion to minimise the possibility of any issues.

Coloured spots - Occasionally you may see coloured spots on the timber. This is due to resin in the timber becoming dyed in the pressure treatment process. This is not detrimental to the product and can usually be wiped off with a damp cloth.

​Concrete posts

All our posts are manufactured with 4 steel bars in each one to reinforce the concrete. This is due to concrete being strong in compression but weak in tension. However, steel is strong in both compression and tension. Small cracks are normal and acceptable in reinforced concrete and are caused by temperature and moisture differences.
